The David Wallace Award for Applied Statistics is given annually to two graduate students working on applications of statistics in scientific domains. This year's award was given to Christopher McKennan for his work on analysis of asthma genetics and genomics datasets and to Wanting Xu for her work on statistical analysis of high-frequency voltage measurements from an electrical circuit exhibiting chaotic behavior. This award was established thanks to a generous donation by Statistics alumnus, David Frohardt-Lane (MS, 2000).

Ph.D. Degree in Computational and Applied Mathematics
The University of Chicago has recently approved a new degree-granting Ph.D. program in Computational and Applied Mathematics. The program will be jointly administered by faculty in a number of departments (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science and others)
in a formal framework called the Committee on Computational and Applied Mathematics (CCAM). Information about the Ph.D. program can be found here, and about the faculty in the Committee here.
The Computational and Applied Mathematics Initiative builds on the interdisciplinary efforts of Statistics faculty, students; their research, seminars, and classes.
