Employment
The Department has openings for a Senior Lecturer and three tenure-track positions: an Assistant Professor of statistics and/or data science; an Assistant Professor as well as an Associate Professor of computational and applied mathematics.

The Department of Statistics Consulting Program is now open and receiving project requests for the new academic year. 

Congratulate our Student Women in Science
PhD student Wanrong Zhu is the recipient of the Elaine K. Bernstein Women in Science Award. The award provides additional assistance for student research and travel. Congratulations, Wanrong!

Congratulations to our Harper Fellow!
Statistics PhD Christopher McKennan has been awarded the prestigious Harper Dissertation Fellowship for 2018-19. The University-wide competition awards financial support toward the completion of the candidate's dissertation.

Award-winning Faculty
Prof. Lek-Heng Lim has been awarded the prestigious Hans Schneider Prize for 2019 by the International Linear Algebra Society (ILAS). The Society acknowledges the best scholarship in this area of mathematical research triennially. Lek-Heng will be formally presented with his award at the ILAS’s 23rd annual meeting in June 2020 in Galway, Ireland, with the National University of Ireland, Galway, sponsoring the meeting of mathematicians. Congratulations to Prof. Lim on his award and ongoing research in applied mathematics!

Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching
We are pleased to congratulate Associate Professor Rina Foygel Barber for receiving a Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Mentoring this year. The award is given annually each Spring to full-time faculty in the divisions who exemplify the highest teaching standards and are nominated for distinction by their students and home department. Congratulations and thanks to Rina for her wonderful service to our students and department.

Faculty Professional Service Honor
Prof. Per Mykland, Robert Maynard Hutchins Distinguished Service Professor, is the new president of the Society for Financial Econometrics for 2017-19. Congratulations, Per!

Ph.D. Degree in Computational and Applied Mathematics
The University of Chicago has recently approved a new degree-granting Ph.D. program in Computational and Applied Mathematics. The program will be jointly administered by faculty in a number of departments (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science and others) in a formal framework called the Committee on Computational and Applied Mathematics (CCAM). Information about the Ph.D. program can be found here, and about the faculty in the Committee here.

CAMI
The Computational and Applied Mathematics Initiative builds on the interdisciplinary efforts of Statistics faculty, students; their research, seminars, and classes.
